Taipei Night Markets...

When you visit Taiwan, Night Markets are a must visit for food and souvenirs. There are endless night markets available; buzzing with tourist and local alike; these markets are accessible till late midnight.

Night market is a form of street market, since most of the night markets are named after the name of the streets, in Taiwan, that can be seen in both urban and suburban areas. As you may already know, the night markets in Taiwan offers a wide selection of small eats a.k.a snacks; often taken as carry-out, though some sellers provide a few small folding tables with stools.

The must try Taiwan snacks at the night markets:
  1. Oyster omelettes, 蚵仔煎
  2. Oyster mee sua
  3. The all time famous stinky tofu, 臭豆腐. This was one thing I could never make myself to like; hence I dropped the idea of trying it.
  4. Taiwan sausages – I had one almost every day. Yes I know it’s not healthy!
  5. Dumplings – steamed, boiled or pan fried. Options include meat/ seafood, cabbage, and even sweet options like sesame paste, sweet bean paste and etc.
  6. Famous fried chicken and assorted fried stuff. You name it, they have it!

The trick and tip is; when you see a long line at a certain store, that’s a good sign! Wait no more. Line up too and be fascinated why the hell people would queue up 30 minutes for a bite.

Besides food, night markets also feature numerous other products for sale, including clothes, bags, shoes, trinkets, kitchen items, etc.

If you’ve been to local pasar malams in Malaysia, these are similar but more interesting! :)

Ok we made a stop over 2 night markets in one day!

Liao Lin Street Night Market, 遼寧街夜市! We were there early, as you can see the shops are setting up their stores...

What else? Huge juicy Taiwanese Sausages! I grabbed myself one of these sausages on the way in! :P

Some random shop selling noodles with pig intestines and more! Ok seriously I reckon Taiwanese eats almost anything. Every single part of a pig/ chicken/ duck is edible! GOSH and gross did I mention? I don't know, I'm just not too adventurous to try something like the duck's tongue or a pig's ear...

Next up was the all time famous Shihlin Night Market! It seems like you're attending some concert; with millions of people storming in and out of the place. I feel as though I'm suffocating, reaching out to breathe... so please go early if you plan to visit...

Shilin Night Market is HUGE, streching from one street to the other... with games, food, souvenirs and MORE! I didn't quite enjoy myself; perhaps exhausted and simply too many people...

The food centre at Shilin Night Market which was crazily packed and it was HOT HOT HOT!~ Yes I do agree there are endless stalls inside with glorious food, but heck getting a table can be such a huge nightmare!

We finally squeeze ourselves in and shared a table with another couple... Some random shop we chose and most of the stalls were selling almost the same things anyway! The fried meehoon topped with minced pork. Tasted ok but nothing great!

Pan fry radish cake which was a total disaster... The sauce just didn't go with the radish cake at all...
